Abdul Haro, MP) to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife: - Could the Cabinet Secretary— (i) state the number of times Kenya has burned elephant ivory and rhino horns since 1989? (ii) provide details of :- (a) the total tonnage and value of the ivory and rhino horns burned in the country since 1989? (b) the cost of mobilizing, collecting, storing and burning ivory in all the burning ceremonies since 1989? (c) the number of wildlife killed by game rangers every year as a measure of difficult animal control compared to wildlife killed by poachers since 1989? (iii) elaborate immediate steps by the Ministry in mitigating the heavy cost of regularly burning ivory without realizing the intended benefits both for the development and wildlife conservation in the country? (iv) explain why the associated cost of burning as indicated above could not be used for development of our parks and protect wildlife in the country?
