The Member for Lamu West (Hon. Stanley Muthama, MP) to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation: - Could the Cabinet Secretary— (i) outline the measures in place to ensure year-round access to fresh water for residents of Lamu West Constituency including initiative such as the construction of multipurpose dams for farmers and pastoralists, renovation of Water reservoirs and creation of water pans in strategic locations in Manda island, Mokowe, Bargoni, Pandaguo, Katsaka Kairu, Kakathe, Maleli, Maisha Masha, Lake Amu, Mkunumbi and Mpeketoni? (ii) provide the status on the proposal to construct large water reservoir’s in the Garsen-Moa area to address flooding in River Tana and benefit residents of Lamu and Tana River County? (iii) elaborate the policies and strategies in place or being developed by the State Department for Irrigation to promote agriculture in Lamu West Constituency, particularly on encouraging enhanced irrigation- based food production including the cultivation of high-yield industrial crops like improved cotton varieties approved by the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO)?
