Empty Rhetoric

Madam Karua is no special politician. All politicians by profession or default are fraudsters. Hon, Karua's recent apparent show of political prowess are simply cosmetic displays to endear the unwitty and gullible citizentry as 2012 approaches. As reptiles, politicians knowingly moult to survive. Watch out.

I come from Tharaka constituency, and i must admit that Hon. Minister, you are different from the rest.

I am always encouraged by your energy and zeal to push forwards. You are different politically. While others are being pushed by some forces, you propel yourself with vigour.
Carry on mum, carry on with the fighting.
Even though it is not secret ballot, and it be mlolongo, i will be on your line. And i know am not alone. Kenya has changed. we now know more. We know who works and who can work. You will be the Obama we have been looking for.

Why can't Ministry's of Justice ministers in the some most corrupt countries in Africa. start demanding money deposited in Europe by dictators.
You can make a difference as minister of Justice.

Keep on....

Lady Karua,

It is of paramount importance that you have an efficient and controlled campaign. There is no need to jump the gun; wacha waseme Uhuru ni wao, wewe ni wetu!! You should have waited about 2 days bila commenting then made light of that pitiful endorsement! Again, you need a campaign team to surround you who are critical thinkers and strategists! It helps; ask Obama! There's also no harm in poaching respectable leaders who are in a different "boma" currently! Continue with the ziara's around the country, this is the only time you have for this. I would have liked to hear you comment on the 2 gentlemen who were murdered juzi, whatever your opinion, it's important that it be heard, so we know that you are not all about the constitution and law but are about other things..in this case humanity to say the least; you have to be an all rounder. Your website is down...ala, you are not taking this seriously enough!! Such is unacceptable. You are the one..now go ahead.

Wrong signs and symptoms

Freedom of the press in our country kenya is indexed at 21 down from 23 by reporters without borders international,we were making some positive development, but now all seems to be going down with the passing of the communication(amendment bill)
Honorable minister you were just yesterday on the forefront fighting for freedom of press during the Moi era and now you want to pour what you achieved to the dogs.

"It seems kenyan politicians can only be compared to the process of human fertilization, where the millions of male cells rash to meet the female cell, each fights to gain entry to the cell by eating out the cell wall. The one which gains entry first produces an enzyeme which prevents others from entry"
Is it because you are in parliament
mps come and go kenya still remains, can we take care of generation to come by making good laws.

The world's first Freedom of the Press Act was introduced in Sweden in 1766 no wonder they are among the best in press tolerance.
We need to have as a nation clear cut constitutional or statutory protections pertaining to the media and published materials other than curtailing their freedom.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers.

Please do not approach every question with an open mouth.

THE DYNAMICS OF KIBAKI SUCCESSION UNFOLDING?

THE DYNAMICS OF KIBAKI SUCCESSION UNFOLDING?
By John Cheruiyot

The home coming party for Kalonzo Musyoka , Kenya ’s 11th VP over the weekend was an eye opener of some sort.

Although 2012 is far and difficult to uncode the VP’s thanks giving party gave a vivid glimpse of what to expect in 2012 if all variables remain constant. The party revealed a trend in Kibaki succession strategy.

The presence of Uhuru Kenyatta who invited the VP to address the excited crowd spoke volumes. The presence of Mt.Kenya power houses like Martha Karua and Kiraitu Murungi gave a powerful signal that Kibaki succession game had started and that Kalonzo is one of the candidates to be preferred by the Mt.Kenya communities and Kibaki himself. This means the GEMA elite are slowly coming to terms that their very own will not sail through given the quagmire that almost tore the nation asunder after the controversial presidential elections.

Furthermore they lack a popular leader across the board. The Gema community currently has Uhuru Kenyatta, George Saitoti and Martha Karua being the possible presidential material but only if it was among the Gema communities. Communities outside Mt.Kenya will find it difficult to buy or sell the three Gema potential leaders.

No Gema leader however excellent he or she may be will get a vote outside their region and community unless a miracle takes place. It is worth to note that Kibaki must have endorsed his successor and that must be Kalonzo Musyoka. If that is the case the political scenario is taking a new twist and an exciting one.

The miracle that Kalonzo kept talking about during the 07 general election seems to be taking place before our very eyes. It is a powerful miracle for Mt.Kenya to endorse a leader outside their region and community. This indeed is a miracle in the making.

It should be noted that Kikuyu community in Diaspora from Rift Valley were among the high powered delegation that assembled at Kalonzo’s home. That means again that Kibaki supports Uhuru Kenyatta the deputy prime minister as Kalonzo’s running mate come 2012.

If this is the way things will look in 2012 in PNU side this in itself is a revolution. Kiraitu observed the obvious that no one tribe or region can rule without the support of other . He added further that ‘never again will a dictator rule Kenya again’. It is a fact that Kenya ’s 42 communities are all minorities, they need each other to elect a popular leader. For instance the Kikuyu are 22%, followed by the Luhya 14%, Luo 13%, Kalenjin 12% and Kamba 11% while the rest constitutes 30%.

This indeed is Kenya ’s exciting scenario. No one community can conspire to rule unless through the bullet or a rig. Unlike Rwanda where Hutu constitutes over 90% or Ethiopia where the Oromo constitute 40% Kenya is an amalgamation of small communities. This is good asset for Kenya .

If Kalonzo-Uhuru is PNU’s presidential axis what does it portend? It means PNU will be now begin to hatch a plot after another to tear apart their arch rival ODM. Currently ODM is having a crack resulting from cabinet appointment. Those who felt left out are pushing for a grand opposition as a way to punish Raila and his Pentagon.

The disgruntled MPs are basically pushing for a move which many see as a design to embarrass the prime minister. Hence Kalonzo-Uhuru may lure the disgruntled into their ranks. It is why Raila may be pushing for their resignation in order to uproot and replace with other loyal leaders. The election of Gideon Moi as Kanu’s representative for Rift Valley with a mission to reinvent the party may be part of the strategy to give more muscle to PNU by 2012.

What does this entail? That Kanu is set to be revived in Rift Valley and throughout the nation to recapture her past glory. With ODM-K, KANU and Narc-K in PNU bandwagon will this threaten ODM and the Pentagon? In Rift Valley Kalonzo will benefit from ODM-K chairman Sam Poghisio the MP for Kacheliba and Minister for Information.Poghisio is a prime asset for Kalonzo in Rift Valley more particularly in Rift Valley among the Pokot and the Kalenjin in general. He is untained, brilliant and a shrewd Young Turk .Many today marvel how he survived the ODM tsunami and are ready to take him seriously this time round. He is thus a leader to watch in Rift Valley in Kibaki succession matrix.

But it should be noted that the Kalenjin community despite Moi’s persuasive powers and influence for 50 years the community vehemently rejected PNU and Kibaki candidature last year.

Currently the Mt.Kenya elite are opposed to the release of the Kale youth who were arrested and held in police cells after post election mayhem. With the raping of women, the torture and castration of men in Mt.Elgon by Kenya Army the Kalenjin community is further hurt and further alienated from the PNU political calculus. The same is true for Luo, Luhya and other communities where pro-PNU supporters were uprooted.

If the Internal Security, Constitutional Affairs and the Defense ministries are used to punish ODM supporters chances are PNU will not go beyond Mt.Kenya and Kamba land.

Musyoka Kalonzo may be perceived as a Mt.Kenya project and more specifically a Kibaki project, the same way Uhuru Kenyatta was declared a Moi Project in 2002. Given the fact that many regions and communities are allergic to Gema leadership chances are Kalonzo-Uhuru axis may suffer fatally.

On the other hand should ODM stick with Raila and the Pentagon the 07 scenario is bound to emerge come 2012. The Pentagon members are charismatic, courageious and articulate, their influence is massive. If they stick together and they use their powerful people driven ministries well to serve the people throughout the nation-ODM will no doubt have an easy win in 2012. ODM currently has key minisries_Agriculture, Sports, Water.Fisheries, Cooperatives, Medical Services, Local Authorities, Immigration, North Eastern, Higher Education, Industralization, Roads, Lands and Tourism. If they inject innovation and effective service delivery they will touch lives of many Kenyans and thus win them the more.

This is where the real battle lies. If ODM ministers will understand that their efficiency and service delivery is one of the greatest tool to win the 2012 general election. The PNU counterparts should understand too that their ministries like defence, police and internal security if used the way it is now it will hurt their political prospect come 2012. The Grand Coalition is a show case and a test of leadership across the divide. Will the PNU outwit ODM in service delivery or the vice versa?

John Cheruiyot.

reality

martha karua u r undobtedly the undisputed champion of double speak. today you say CONFIDENTLY INFRONT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY THAT THE LAW IS AN ASS and that we should enact and use for public good, tomorrow you have the gutts to sate without blinking that THE LAW IS SACRED AND ALL THE SUSPECTS OF POST ELECTION VIOLENCE SHOULD FACE ITS WRATH. those wrongfully arrested for rightfully demonstrated against rigged elections and now face a posibility of death sentence for alleged an wild charges such as murder notwithstanding. although this is informed by the reality that u r a thru product of a ruthless society that upholds an ideology of winner takes it I have been praying that ur cligue considers diplomatic aproach to addressing societal contentious issues. that ur caliber should give an hear to dissenting voices rather than manipulating the available structures to achieve ur biased agendas and resorting to chest thumping heroics of a baffoon

an issue at hand is amnesty for the demonstrators of last year rigged elections. mark that i am not advocating for amnesty for those who killed and raped because i frmly believe that such criminals should face the law. ofcourse i have heard you say the only way to draw the line is by subjecting evry suspect to the rigourous, lengthy, slow process of litigation. i can only wish that this process was efficient and reliable. this is where the problem comes in:
- thousands of youth who expressed their right to protest against rigged elections continue to languish in our filthy cells without trial while the police have done very litle in commencing prosecution since evidence is so scarce and cannot sustain any case in court.
-where prosecution has commenced, the evidence given is premised on vendetta and most victims can not suficiently identify their aggressors. infact many youth were arrested for demonstration are now facing murder charges after 'wild witnesses' having 'positively' identifying them.
-the issue of reconcilling the waring communities has never kicked off. instead, those who had fled have literally been taken back vide a myopic government policy of "operation rudi nyumbani'' and now live in fear and uncertainity of their neighbours hospitality.
-these hostile communities are miraculously expected to live in peace even to the issues undelying their hostility is not addressed.
-the most important issue of historical injustices and specifically the bias access to land by foreigners in the expense of indeginous communities especially in rift valley has been jettisoned into an abysmall pit. this concern has been cheaply written off on the premise that the law allows any kenyan to own property ANYWHERE. this u say is the law and previous injustices notwithstanding.

there is a serious danger of these concerns to be cheaply written off like u purport to do but the open truth is that unless and untill we reconcile and remedy past injustices, we will definetly remain in a merry go round of solving fresh injustices propeled and fueled by unresolved past injustices.

for now i can only pray that we humble ourselves as a community and find within us that mistakes happened in the past and the future is beak if we are not willing to remedy them. secondly inorder for public good to be upheld we should embrace diplomacy as the be approach in sincerely negotiating the best solution in our societal uphevals. in the meantime the law should remain an ass and in the scenario at hand all those who cannot be proofed to be guilty of post elections offences (demonstration not among them) should released forthwith inorder for us to adress the problems underlying these recurrent skirmishes.

we want peace not 2012 elections

We want peace not 20012 elections.

Quote:

“When the power of love, overcomes the love for power” something good will happen in Kenya and the world.

If you want to make peace you don’t talk to your friends, you talk to your enemies.

-Move towards the ones you disagree with
-Be warm
-Love each other -unconditional positive regard
-Empathy
-Congruence in what we say and act
-Be compassionate
-Do not pay evil with evil
-Nor insult with insult but bless
-Be gentle
-Respect each other
-Have a clear conscience
-Have self control
-Offer hospitality to each other
-Share a talk
-Share meal etc
-Fellowship with each other

The good part you do not need to go to school to do the above.

The greatest gift we can give to Kenyans(ourselves) is to realize a culture of peace now and in future.

It is lamentable that to be a good tribalist one must become the enemy of the rest of Kenyans.

Peace is a balance ,a state of mind in which we feel good about
-ourselves
-our lives
-our families
-our friends
-our communities
Our future
Peace is about how we handle problems and how we get along with each other.
If there is to be peace among the citizens, there must be peace among the leaders
Madam preach peace not 2012 elections we have the votes and you are in the examination room
we are scoring all of you.
So please leave elections for the voters, preach peace
God bless

HILLARY ESQ

Hillary are you a Kenyan living in Nairobi? Or are you one of those who comment from ten thousand miles away and pretend to be conversant with intimate details of governance?

Martha Karua has protected society. She has chaired the LSK, she has represented people like Hon Orengo and Hon Amolo Odinga at times when no one else in the country would touch them. If you watched the opening of the 10th parliament then you would definitely have no doubt that that is a person who is schooled in the letter of the law. I take exception to the matter on kenyan borders. Kenya within its boundaries represents a very well represented society, with its extremes intellectually, socio-economically, financially, politically etc. It is for this reason that Kenyans irregardless of where they come from are able to fit into any society and economy be it Asia, Europe, North America etc. And Martha need not announce her travel and engagement itinerary to all and sundry for you to know what she has done without the borders.

Kudos Martha for sitting at one of the toughest negotiating tables in the history of this country, for standing firm on some of those clauses that caused the talks to collapse. What ODM needs to realise is that Kenya is not ruled by acclamation or noise. It is not the bully who takes home the cup, it is the person who advocates what is right. And that is what happened with negotiations and even with the current cabinet. Remember as per the constitution PNU won the election, and is therefore the custodian of the government, the other parties are there by invitation. ODM, if your turn ever comes to govern, we might just lend you Martha, you have displayed a worrying dearth of intellects who have the guts to stand up for what they believe in, and cannot be bullied!

CHASING WIND OR A MIRRAGE? CERTAINLY, YES.

You are my learned friend, yes. You have very impressive credentials, yes, just as we do.You have been a legal practitioner within the kenyan borders and i think this is where we differ but thats not the issue. The issue is that you make rushy, wild and irrational decisions that leave your integrity seriously injured and/or impaired.A lawyer of high standing and/or repute will always have a duty to protect and promote the welfare of the society. Hon Karua, this is where you have failed due to your greed for power. Your uncompromising character will ultimately suffocate your political career. You can serve the community better as a Chief Magistrate at Kibera Law Courts.

Congrats Hon. Martha!

No doubt you are the Lady of the moment and especially in the history of Kenya's leadership. You do serve with such a positive zeal and for the good of our country.

But let me advice (just like any other peace loving Kenyan would do), those who are not using this forum as they ought:

Please let's not comment so negatively about our leaders as if we are settling dirty political, social or personal scores if not echoing some dirty and primitive tribal overtones and undertones. Why should someboby (a genuine and right thinking Kenyan), write so negatively about our leaders such as Hon. Martha? This beats all logic as it's unacceptable in all aspects of life. Kina Rono et al should desist from such dirty comments as their comments don't befit a right thinking person - morally and spiritually.

Hon. Martha deserves respect; as a leader and as a Kenyan mother. May God help us to say no to tribal and ethnic hatred among other sins.

May God Bless Hon. Martha and all the other leaders.

We love you Martha and we pray for you.

Regarding all the atrocities that have been committed against other people on our mother land, 'There's A Rhiteous Judge in Heaven Who Says Vengeance Belongs Unto Him'. He's A Consuming Fire And He Will Surely Do Only What God Can Do To the unjust.

May God Bless us as Kenyans.

Martha Karua-NOW BEHAVING WELL

Last one or two weeks, I must admit that I categorically differed with Hon. Martha Ideologically. Icould not just stand seeing my learned friend being perceived as a stumbling block to very obvious reforms that Kenya needs. I could not for heavens sake stomach the idea that she was a hardliner.Martha consistently fought for socio-political change when Moi was at the political helm.I could not for heaven's understand why she could turn both hypocritical and tribal today.I firmly believe in integrity. I could stop at nothing to push for the truth especially bearing in mind the deaths and property destruction coming due to a truly flawed election.I stand above cheap tribal agenda.Kenya must be cohesive.Kenyans must love one onother, Kenyans must work jointly to grow the economy. We need sustainable economoic development for present and future generations irrespective of tribe, race or creed.

It was disturbing to see My learned friend being reffered to all over as a hardliner on issues that she had stood for OVER many years.

Let me take a turn .I now love martha .Since H.E M.Kibaki and Hon.Raila signed the peace and power sharing accord, Martha has really understood that Kenya is bigger than any one of us.She has become a friend to Raila and ODM generally.Madam Martha you have really done what IWAS LONGING for.We NEED a united Kenya. We need peace.WE NEED jobs for our people .Martha keep the spirit. We forgive each other for the past and chart a new path.We build Kenya for My CHILDREN and your children.

As an intelligent lady and lawyer, I hope that Martha will be frontline championing the good ideas in BOMAS DRAFT CONSTITUTION.

I hope and pray Martha will in the years to come become a prime.minister or even president

With more reforms coming which I urge MARTHA TO TAKE positively Kenya will be ok.

Martha keep the new path you have re-discovered.

Martha may Good bless and reward your new thinking and spirit. Respect RAILA as your senior just as you do with Kibaki.Respect ODM as a major and leading parliamentary party.Develop PNU as a party to unite all Kenyans. Now be a role model.

Martha you are now on right trajectory. It easy to turn into a tribal leader which may ruin your chance for national leadership.Emulate Raila whose consistency has earned national and global fame and postion of executive prime minister

BRAVO RAILA AS YOU SEEK TO DRIVE DESIRED KENYAN CHANGE.

BRAVO MARTHA FOR THE CHANGE OF SPIRIT

BRAVO H.E M. KIBAKI FOR THE DEMOSTRATION OF STATEMANSHIP

BRAVO BRAVO ODM FOR THE COURAGE-BRAVO, ORENGO, MUSALIA, RUTO, NYONG'O, NGILU, MAGARA, NYAGA, BALALA, ABABU, KOSGEYI, ALL ODM M.PS for saving Kenya from the yoke

Suleiman give us a break

Suleiman, are you implying that Martha is the most educated or highest achieved woman in Kenya's history? Do you mean that pple who challenge her rude behavior have not gone past class six? Please get serious. What about women like Wangari Mathaai, first woman to get a PHD in EAST AFRICA, (not just Kenya), but her acheivement was often downplayed in the kenyyan partriachal society until she won the nobel then they were forced to recognize her, and even then all they could give her was an assistant minister! What would you call that. Is she rude? No. Is she spiteful? No. Is she condenscending? No. Does this make her less intelligent and less of an achiever ? Hell No.Kenya is awash with well schooled and high achievers like Dr. Eddah Gachukia, Dr Wanjiku Kabira, plus others who for lack of space i will not spell out, while if its in the legal business we have the likes of Mrs Agnes Murgor who carry themselves with respect, dignity and decorum, unlike the bloated ego and riff-raff rough edges that run before Martha's intelligence. What has always been in question is not so much her intelligence as her arrogance. Its one thing to be strong willed, its quite another to be vicious. Rather than dismiss other bloggers as class six material, may be take a mirror and look at your character and values. You must be pathetic to glorify martha's behaviour as desirable.

I choose not to respond to the God Bless Martha issue, because you got it out of context. I am surprised you can challenge Wanjiru on the basis of What Martha has done for us? When you say Us what or who do you mean? Kikuyus and Kirinyagans? Im sorry you force me to take a tribal line, but there is very little to celebrate about Martha beyond the Central boundary. Like someone ones said on this blog, She is a village Hero. What has she done, how many Bills Has she brought to Parliament in fifteen years? The last she tried, she got a slap in the face- courtesy of her arrogance and juvenile temparament and tantrums. The government she represents has lost on several occasions for nothing other than her Sheer arrogance that is the hallmark of most Kikuyus, no wonder you guys cannot see. I call her fake because she is now complicit in the same crimes that she objected to when Moi was in power. Is it alright now that it is her tribesman? She is behaving like the KANU clowns that she distasted just a little while ago- just in case she thinks that our memory is short. She is the BIwott of Kibaki's regime. She is an enormous liability to the government.

response to Tikolo Shikuku (Tshiku)

Little knowledge is very dangerous. It makes Tshiku make silly, naive arguments.Tshiku, you have only made vague remarks. But SADLY,this is equivalent to your own IQ.

Idont need to call a press conference or run for "a political office" to articulate my understanding of Kenya's socio-economic and political dynamics.

I have done and continue to a lot for Kenya and the world in my work.I dont, need as a woman and lawyer of global repute to go round seeking cheap, tribal publicity like the lady you adore.

All we know and celebrate is the fact that Annan managed to set Kenya on the path we have desired for many years. It will not matter whether Karua and Tshiku think tribally.

If we have to build a unified Kenya, we shall first shake off tribal chauvanism and look at national unity. We Kikuyu's must be ashamed. Why did all tribes vote overwhelminly for Kibaki in 2002 ? They needed real change that had remained elusive since we attained political independence. What you refused to do in 2002 is now to be done forcibly. And those with little, tribe based knowledge like Tshiku will have no option.

Kenya needs a parliamentary system of govt to check excesses of the executive. It requires an independent judiciary to dispense justice without favour or bias.It requires an executive that is accountable to the citizenry. It requires equitable distribution of resources (wealth) for balanced development. All this could not be achieved under the current constitutional order. Tshiku needs to learn.

Time for real change is with us today.TRIBAL RUGS can hang !

I think Martha Karua is a very intelligent woman. Infact, too intelligent for her own and Kenya's good. Her pride and arrogance is a HUMONGOUS liability to Kenya. She was a HUGE stumbling block in the mediation talks and looked idiotic on BBC Hardtalk. The real Iron Lady of Kenya is Wangari Maathai. I think Tshiku and his ilk are the ones making idiotic sentiments. Wanjiru is thinking outside the tribal box like all Kenyans should. Wake up and smell the coffee people!! It is the likes of Karua that are destroying Kenya. I'm sure she is eating humble pie wherever she is - now that Kibaki has agreed to let the other party have what she and others were refusing.

As a by the way, it is God who choses who to bless and who to curse (if you are a Christian as your name purport)and so you don't have any right or obligation to denouce, curse or bless what others have wished for their deserving leaders. Samwel Wachira stop insulting God

Mr Wachira, stop insulting God that he will bless Martha! God can only forgive her because he is full of grace. Wasnt Martha the main stumbling block in the talks? See when she is locked out the deal came to be? You Kikuyus are so selfish- Martha cannot even pity or empathize with her fellow Kikuyu's crowded in refugee camps. I look at the old women, mothers and young children enduring the harsh conditions, rainy days, the sickly elderly men and i wonder that Martha has no sympathy whatsoever! As long as her own selfish ambitions are taken care of. You call that human, you say dont worry God will bless you? Martha's hands are stained with blood just like the Machete wielding men. Stop mocking God.
As for the dumb of a woman called Connie, you are a disgrace to women. You are below any illiterate woman in the world because they can reason better than you. An MP is judged by the bills they bring to parliament. This very website which belongs to Martha prooves she has done nothing for this nation, no Bill in 15 years what a waste. Njoki Ndungu made a large stride in a record 5 years. Tell me Njoki is intelligent and smart, not the arrogant martha who has a lot of juvenile tendencies(like storming out on Kofi). RESPONSE TO CONNIE

Connie , there is nothing personal between myself and Martha Njoka Karua. As a lawyer I know what Kenya should be.

I know the true state of affairs.Martha is a nuisance. She was front line castigating Moi for reforms. Why must she stand in the way of reforms now.Look at the future Connie.Martha knows PNU has no parliamentary majority and if you connie cared to go to school which i doubt, you should know that most in democracies, prime minister is head of GOVT.Dont look at Tanzania, -where CCM that forms govt is also the majority party in parliament. But here our elderly president rigged elections and is in bed with Judas iscariot just for political convenience.Where is moral integrity here?

Let shun tribalism. As a fellow Kikuyu, I feel for other Kenyans .We need national cohesion.Aren't you disturbed by Martha's manners ? Connie you should also make sense.

Martha has spoilt her reputation both locally and nationally.Infact, there is no difference between herself and the Biwott of Moi era.Martha cannot freely set fron in other regions of Kenya because of her silly, tribal approach to national politics.

Wachira , tribalism is a bad notion.Dont support Martha just because she is Kikuyu. We know that one day Kibaki will leave power.Remember how hard we derided Moi.Was it because he was NOT a Kikuyu?

We will have ourselves to blame even before 2012.Let us agree with calls for reforms. Why do we have to protect the Kibaki presidency when Kibaki himself is now an imbecile. He cannot even control his wife-Luthy.

Martha has no moral integrity. She is merely a tribal rug.Kenya needs women like Wangari wa Maathai who see beyond the tribe.

The prime minister's job is not being created for Raila it will be a constitutional office which even Martha herself can hold in future. We Kikuyu's must not be blind to this reality.WE WERE SO UNHAPPY WITH MOI when he enjoyed vast powers why dont we feel for other tribes today?

Another point----Kalenjins have no business seing us in their Rift valley ancestral land. Why cant Uhuru Kenyatta give us some portion of his fathers land.? that is littered all over?

If Martha has no business with Kenyans from other tribes, us young Kikuyu women want intermarriages. Our lives cant stop because of one woman and few senile men.

Martha stop your arrogance and repent.

Mediate with a view of building one Kenya and one nation. Consequently, reject views of unpatriotic Kenyans like the pseudo Partriotic Kenyan advising you to shun the likes of Raila and Ruto. The self made patriot is a villager and somebody commenting on issues, he/she cannot understand from the "comfort" of the Golden Mountain, where other Kenyans who dropped from school are cheating themselves.However. Honourable Karua know there is tommorrow. The vigour and honest you fought Moi and KANU with, is lacking this time round as you mediate with your peers and activits of yesteryears. Remember when you walked on Moi at Kerugoya, you never imagined that you will become a center of Kenyans' hope. Why delete other comments? Well i said it and will say again, intelligence is one thing but a riff - Raff rag - tag is quite another. Martha is just the village hero that she is. Those who think of her as a hero are unexposed to say the least. Wasnt Thatcher the Iron lady of the world? Isnt Condi Rice doing the same dirty job that Martha is doing? Difference is real intelligence, class, exposure and tact. Martha is a pale shadow and an abuse to the women we regard as achievers. Martha's intelligence it too narrow to only serve the Kibaki regime, shame on you.

Omwoha's view

Ms. Martha Karua is a tribalist of the highest order. Why were constitutional reforms neccessary when Moi was in power in 1990's ? Why was Martha Karua so aggressive in demanding for the reforms then and not Now ? We know she is trying to protect The Kibaki presidency to tribal gain. Why will reforms be neccessary in 2012 and Not now ? is it because Kibaki will be out of power.

Martha Karua please mean sense.Time for constitutional change was yesterday irrespective of who occupies the presidency. We need change for posterity of the Kenyan nation NOT central Kenya or Gichugu.Stop playing games. And if you play games as you are clearly doing at the mediation process then history will judge you harshly just remember The Sunkuli's and Biwotts, The Kipruto's and Kibwana, THE Kituyi's and Mutua Katuku----they are all irrelevant yet yesterday they were barking "sheet" around .

You are a lawyer and know very well how change is both urgent and imminent. As a woman, you have set bad shame and precedent.Know that you are only relevant in central Kenya.

Kenya is headed for change with or without your arrogance and you can hang!

We are Kenyans not Americans, British or even Ghanians. We need to do what is good for Kenya not for wageni. Those who don't like it can move to the US/UK/Ghana etc.

"Mother" we are behind you in prayers. Don't give up. Most of the people who are saying negative things about you are just but too envious of your faculties. Don't be "cowed", keep fighting. We can't all be reading from the same !!! We reason and act differently depending on where our hearts are and that's why we will never talk the same language. We, the people on your side prefer to keep quiet and work instead of wasting our time and energy talking nonsense. We know that Kibaki won fairly and that's our belief unless proved otherwise with facts and figures!!! Bravo Martha!

Martha Karua needs to calm down and focus on the work ahead. She needs to understand that her arrogance isn't making her any more relevant than she really is. She claims a solid education and wide experience in public service, but that is not really showing right now. I am not asking you to give up your fight; I am asking you to convince me using civilized words and actions that you deserve that leadership position.

Moi a class 8 man lead Kenya peacefully for 24 years. His motto was peace.Kibaki an elite with all his degrees has drained kenya under the toilet. This man was never born a leader he is a power hungry man.Karua, lucy michuki are his fruits.Kenya needs leaders not educated thieves.Look at what they did yesternight! they send policemen with kikuyu landlords at 2.00a.m to evacuate all the tribes that were occupying Mathare north houses.Surely if this govt is for people why raid people in the middle of the night? Giza cha mwizi! they harass people. But the truth is Kikuyus will not live alone they need luos kalenjins luos maasai and etc and vise versa.Kenya can only the a nation if we all live and work together. Are there strong peace loving people to reach the "enemies" brave landlords will reach people and help them in this hard time.A soft answer will bring down the anger but this raids only increases the enemity.Better live in Korokocho peacefully than live at runda or Muthaika under fear.

Mrs Graca Machel (Nelson Mandela’s wife ) to Martha Karua, member of the PNU negotiation team during the on-going mediation talks) – February 12th, 2008

"Listen to me young lady, you have not seen life. I fought as a guerilla and I have been married to 2 Heads of State. Please do not be a nuisance and understand that we need a political solution and not a legal one. We have the good will of Kenyans and the International Community, if we cannot make progress with you, we might have to kick you out and the process will proceed with or without you"

Not at this time

Martha might be a strong woman, but at this time we dont need that kind of energy, she doesnt hav to prove that fact to anyone, what Kenya needs now is reconciliation, we need to see Martha as a mother trying to reconcile Kenyans. Her education doesnt matter to anyone anymore, it is what she can achieve as part of the mediation team that would matter most. I am sorry to say that she coming out as an hypocrite, self-seeker and those of you who think she is right being an Iron Lady at the such a time i guess you hav not been affected by the violence in the country in any way coz if u were u would speak otherwise. Am ashamed at the ladies here who are doctors and justify Martha's stand. The interest of Kenyans is least of her priorities. She is only defending her ministerial post and what comes with it.
Kudos to Raila, atleast he has seen sense in not fighting for the presidency anymore and is willing to talk. Kibaki is being a pain, PNU want to be managers and pretend to be leaders there is a great difference btn the two.
Kudos to Wangari Maathai, she is one in a million, she stands for the truth, doesnt engage in doublespeak, for those who hav forgotten, she refused to be sworn in after all those who said chungwa during the referendum were thrown out of government. thats a true mother and woman, we need more like those not Lucys and Karuas!!!!!!!111

Martha Karua

Martha Karua is a horrible sneering woman who has never heard of the word "tact". She is intelligent, we cannot argue with that. Her intelligence however, is limited to protecting Kibaki and maintaining her power strong hold. She runs this country and we didn't vote for her. She makes the stereotype of a divorced over-achiever woman so much worse. Do we have to be that nasty to be successful in this country? I think not. To be fair though, I have to say, she does one great thing for the country, she unites us from time to time. Nothing unites like a common enemy. Bar her people, I am pretty sure the rest of Kenya hates her. And, she will never be president, unless by "legal" coup of course, which I am very sure she can pull off. God that woman is a pain. CAN ANYONE SHUT HER UP!!!!!

i wonder what one could call a fighter in martha, maybe a tribal fighter yes, we do not need tribal fighters in todays Kenya we need national fighters and martha at one time i thought was that kind of fighter, what has come up and in my opinion she is just a power hungry WOMAN WHO THINKS THAT by being arrogant on an internationally telecast BBC "Hardtalk" made her image more of a fighter. infact was a concluded and observed is that she was just blinded by her arrogance in answering most of the questions. The world will come to dictate on Kenyans if they are not able to run their affairs the way they should and right now we are not running our affairs the way we should so madam jayne do not attack the international community for trying to be a watchdog on Kenya. having travelled outside Kenya does not make you more informed of anything, all we want is National leaders and not Tribal chieftains the Wangu wa Makeris . get out of your small cacoon.

TRUTH

Very interesting how people can see thngs in different ways. Matha's arrogance is ignorance, like someone said, she only went to school in Central. how can any intelligent person in this era still think in terms of tribalism, the problem in kenya is that there has never been any accountaability or taking responsibility for anything, Untill those in politics realise who they work for and we make them know that we are their employers, nothing will ever change, tribalism is stale and old, Get real Ms Karua and look inside your heart how what has happened will affect our country in the future, the mouth is a very powerful tool and should be used wisely

I was just looking at the schools that She went to and I realised most of her life she was in central. I always say tribalism can only be uprooted if affirmative actions is taken so that schools in Kenya are forced to ensure that they have equal representation of all ethnicities in Kenya. I couldn't have been more right...you see?

I watched your interview on BBC and other media outlets when women and children were burnt and killed in Eldoret. I also remember your campaign against corruption during Moi's rule. I dont know if you honestly believe Kibaki won the election, may be you do and I respect that. What leaves me with regret is how silent you have been during the Anglo leasing and other sagas during the Kibaki rule. Is corruption only wrong when a non Kikuyu commits it? Don't shun the Truth

Don't shun the Truth

Please stop deleting my comments whoever you are. Whether webmaster or whatever.

I know truth is always a bitter pill to swallow, but it is said in the bible that truth shall set you free. Let people visiting this website read the truth because I will continue to post it not only on this web page but also in other web pages.

The truth that I wrote was pointing specifically on the conduct of our brothers from central province. This has been witnessed by the other tribes in Kenya.

Residents of central province do not allow Kenyans from other provinces to do business in central province. Why? Yet people from central province are allover Kenya, doing business uninterrupted. Go to the big supermarkets in other towns, the till attendants are all kikuyu females and males. Guys be realistic. Does it mean these places don't have learned people who can works at the tills. But if we are following the constitution, then why is it a problem when other tribes do such jobs in Kikuyuni?

I gave the example of setting up kiosks, operating a matatu business on routes going to central province from Nairobi.

When someone from another province puts up a kiosk or a shop in central province, just to run some small business, the kiosk will either be uprooted after the merchandise has been stolen or it will be burnt.

Someone from outside this province can not operate a matatu business on roads in this province. An attempt to start one will be met with a hefty levy, second if you manage to pay the levy, your matatu will be stolen even before you operate for one week. If your driver is not lucky he will be dead.

Yet on the contrary, these clever folks from central province are everywhere in the country from Busia to Wajir, Mombasa to Mandera.

What am I trying to say, accept other people in central province and you will be accepted in any part of the country. I mean if you play hard then other people will also play hard, we are all human and are bound to be tough when circumstances demand so.

This is a very sensitive issue and can not be swept under the carpet as the web master is trying to always delete it. You can delete it from this webpage but on the ground expect bad things to happen.

We must be ready to face realities. This is what is really making other tribes hate "Kikuyus". Personanlly I don't have a problem with anyone from Kikuyu, I have many who are still my friends even after Dec. 27. On Dec. 25 we ate mbusi choma as Kenyans with only myself being from outside central province while over 40 people were from central province. But you see this is outside Kenya where we are on equal footing.

We all love Mr. Kibaki as a kenyan, this time not as "the President" because that is yet to be confirmed by Kivuitu and the international community, but let it be known to any other kikuyu young and old that people should be allowed to invest in any part of the country, central province included.

Mr. Webmaster you can continue to delete this message but it will be coming on a routine basis. Check other sites as well.

Thank you and May God open up your mind to accept the truth.

An aspiring Moderate said,

Wednesday January 30, 2008 12:35 am

Curious

I am very curious about some very strong allegations that have come in saying that Kibaki 'stole' the elections and anyone supporting Him is mad, Martha Karua included. Because we are all Kenyans and unless things change we need to have a country we can call home, let us be careful to watch what we perceive as truth and attempt however hard to raise above propaganda esp propaganda that fires your ethnic belief.

Kudos to Martha Karua. Her record is impeccable as a magistrate, an advocate (she once represented Jimmy Orengo), and as a Minister. She has been known to carry out Judicial matters without fear or favour and following the letter of the law expeditiously. If anyone has particular indications to the later, let them raise it. And the same can be said of very many other astute Kenyan Lawyers, Jimmy Orengo, Maalim Farah, Abdullahi etc etc Let us not villify Martha for her stand, as a Kenyan like you and I, she is absolutely right for defending her candidate!

Secondly, if you go to the BBC site (external sources always seem to be believed better), they give the Kikuyu population as 20%, Luo at 13% Luhya at 14% etc etc. Kibaki got a vote of above 45%, yet the supposed Kikuyu vote is only 20%, what does that tell you? If someone has better facts let them tell me. Secondly, many normal Kenyan doing the mathematics at home had arrived at a Kibaki vote of 4.6 million just by judging the trend. The delay at KICC is inexcusible, but it can be read whichever way because there was a lot of foul play even before the elections that led to the demise of two normal AP's doing their duties who were percieved to be 'spies'. Tell me all of you sane people, do you think any normal policeman would be a govt spy in hostile territory, btw policemen think like you and I..... think again. Anyway The ECK has delivered in 1992, 1997, 2002, 2005..it is comprised of astute Constitutional Lawyers (any lawyer is free to comment), what makes you think that they as professionals would risk doing business in a shoddy manner just in 2007? Let us give people their due credit, the same way you are not a fool, is the same way they are not foolish.

The fact that disturbs me as a moderate is the fact that Jimmy Orengo signed the minutes of the ECK meeting that took place on the 29th of December, he was present and a member of the team that scrutinised all 210 forms. One of ODM's allegations is Juja. According to them Juja a Kibaki, stronghold voted only 31%, is that really possible while the average voter turnout in Nyanza, Riftvalley and Central was in the upwards of 70%? Isnt that deliberate misinformation? What else is misinformation?

In every competition there is a winner and a loser. And the mark of maturity is loosing gracefully. What the ODM team needed to have done to secure victory is garner 300k more votes from their strongholds. No one stole their vote because there is no area they have claimed they got more votes than were announced at ECK. Kenya is for the Luo, the Giriama, the Kalenjin, the Kikuyu, the Sabaot, the Meru, the Kamba and even the immigrant. There is no one superior than the other, there is no one more aggrieved than the other. Right?

I have only one thing to who think Martha Karua is strong: GET A LIFE or GO TO HELL!! Martha Karua is so arrogant and ignorant it hurts. Where do you see the strength in a woman who believes that Kibaki won elections and yet! the European Union, The Commonwealth, The East African Community, the Law Society of Kenya, the Kenya Human rights Commission, the ELECTORAL COMMISSION (which was bribed and threatened to name Kibaki as a winner) and millions of Kenyans observed that Kibaki rigged. Now, how can she insist that all these pple are wrong? Where is the strength in this? She looks STUPID to the whole world-worse than Hitler. I mean, Martha, please RESPECT yourself! The fact that u have a big mouth doesnt mean that the rest of us should worship you. The person who's really a strong Kenyan woman is Wangari Maathai. She speaks the truth and has never contradicted herself. That's the woman to emulate. Karua, i hope you will take your big mouth to the Hague when Kibaki finally gets there because he sure will!!!

And pls Karua, now that you are Kibaki's mouthpeace, can u please tell him to agree to a re-election, win fairly, in the eyes of all Kenyans and the world devoid of the ECK you guys threatened and bribed (by the way, assure him he will win now that he has Kalonzo's votes).

The comments i hear from "educated" & high ranking kenyans like Martha Karua make one feel there's no way out ! I think Kenyans and Africans to some extent have to sit down and rethink our political system... for the artificial post colonial boundaries to work either we have a Tito-like figure or we wait a few centuries and a good amount of civil wars before people can learn the advantages of living together for a common goal.

Be a good role model to our young people and even your own children.

KARUA MADNESS!!!

Dear Martha Karua,
I respect you for being firm on what u believe in even if it's totally and absolutely EVIL. It is EVIL and WICKED of you to continually insist Kibaki won elections while even an infant born on 27th December knows Kibaki rigged elections. Please do remember, PAYDAY may not be tomorrow or day after tomorrow, it may not be next yr or next yr but as long as God remains on His throne, u r going to PAY for the pain you have caused Kenya before you die. Think about that.

THE FUTURE

Ms. Karua, Congratulations on your re-election and re-appointment. I hope you have an advisor or strategist in your political camp!
It would be a shame for you to be just a Minister for the rest of your political life. I believe you have what it takes...and more to be the Prez and if the constitution changes PM will suit you well too.
I believe you are respected nationaly and I believe YOU can break this chain that since the 60s has continued to totally divide us KENYANS!
Tafadhali, surround yourself with other forward thinking (young) NATIONAL leaders and in 2012 tutakupigia debe... something has to give, tumechoka na hawa jamaa na story zao za urongo for 45 years!

in her tenure we have seen most of the big mouths shut up coz they found their match...a lady who knows and is good at her job
Kudos mheshimiwa! pongezi for the re-appointment in that same docket

Hope for the future

The election backlash was frightening. In a BBC newscast Martha Karua was continually denied the opportunity to answer questions. The world fears her deep concern that the Orange Party could turn into another violent state calamity. However, law and common sense dictate inclusion. Inclusion now weighs as so much intervention that Martha Karua must moderate. The fixers creating irregularity in every party and the child burners in opposition to all society are going to be brought to terms by her office, and her strength alone can ensure political acceptance of justice in Kenya. The people's inner best prays that her good works are used by the party she supports today to promote inclusion so that Kenya never again witnesses such a cowardly and criminal result to electoral process. I hear your cry for justice. God bless you, Martha Karua.

One hella of a Lady

She is one Unique lady who can step up in the middle of crisis and speak hope, strength, focus, and reasonable decisions. Her uniqueness make her stand up despite opposition. Ms. Karua, kenya is lucky to have one lady who is courageous enough 2 hold the position you hold. Speaking in the parliament that is almost a men dominion takes a lot of courage, arguing with them is not easy, but Martha is one lady who can step up in men's dominion and restores the balance. once again, kenya is lucky to have you your honour.

Martha Kaura an Icon

Martha Karua is the most misunderstood politician in Kenya. You cross her path, she does not spare you. May be she is the only known politician to take the media by the horns unrelentingly. Nodoby, and I mean nobody in the little history I know of, has ever waged a war against the media and won. But Madam Karua is out to make history. You never know. Remember the media blackout sometime in 2003 and 2004? Now in her position, the media can not but embrace her. It doesn't matter they are hugging her while holding a dagger behind her back. I have had in my line of duty a chance to encounter, intereact and observe the lady up close and candid. Two memorable occassions spring to mind. First when she walked out on Moi in Gichugu, I think that was in 1997 after then Kirinyaga DC, Francis Sigei in an effort to please his masters deleted her name from the list of speakers. I trailed her out and spoke to her. Boy you could have seen the fury in her eyes and her glowing, sweaty skin, heard the conviction that was her voice, touched the charged air she electrified... a total woman, an icon you joke with at your own peril. The second time was almost a decade later. There she was, smart as usual but weary Martha- after a day's hard work I think she had just returned from rally in Eld. But she was smiling and cluthcing a red rose. She swaying gently to the beat of some background music and enjoying very bit of it. She was dancing to her official car and when she spotted me midway, with avery disarming smile thrust the rose into my hands. "Have this, even you.... should appreciate the beauty of the flower (Narc kenya's. it was the official launch.)
Before you rush to comment on her, appreciate she is not the woman next door and what you read in the media is just a very minor glimpse of her.

long live martha karua

opposition is a sign of progress and also being a leader with focus draws enemies to you.crossing these obstacles is what defines a good leader(which you are so far)
i am a law student and apart from me,you are a role model to the ladies-folk.for such a long time women have been sidelined and not allowed to talk.that is the reason these 'haters' are callling you rude.you know what you are talking about(am an upcoming lawyer so i understand)but those who do not have an idea of the whole process mess you(and us)by their lack of knowledge and speed to critisize.
keep working hard,we are right there with you, rallying change for the kenyan legal system and constitutional development.
bravo martha,bravo bravismo!

Chikombe said,

I think she is not rude, this must be a misconception!

Honourable Martha Karua likes to speak with authority and probably this is what is being misconstrued as rudeness. I think in a society where male chauvinism prevails it is just right for the honourable to learn how to get through the mire without getting stuck in the muddle.

Although the attitude may be provocative in essence, I think people should not take offence. It is hard out there. The honourable lady has to perfect the way she projects her image to survive the male domineering trait. She has done reasonably well and has earned herself respect both amongst her colleagues and the general public.

People should not feel disenchanted to hear the honourable MP negotiate the political arena the way she does. The male colleagues have to respect her for what she is. She has done brilliantly well in male dominate field of politics ripe with onslaught of all kinds.

I watched your entire discusion aired on BBC. Congratulations on your effort to minimize corruption. I was impressed on how you presented yourself at the BBC discussion forum while responding to unrealistic queries from an anchor who knows little if any about kenya governemnt. These Europeans don't realize that its harder to get rid of corruption that finding Osama Bin Ladin, just one human being that the rest of the world has failed to trace his whereabouts despite using all the existing technology. Corruption is not an event, its a chain of events much like terrorism.

martha should not start seeing the opposition as an obstacle to their "good governance." the problem with we africans is that we like being praised (by sycophants) rather than criticised even when we do the wrong things. we should learn to accept positive criticism in our diverse society and to tolerate each other's views if democracy is to be nurtured for africa's development

Hi madame you deserve a pat onthe back for your efforts put in trying to groom a corruption-free kenya. You should continue that way but we should able to see more action on the ground as those corrupt fellows you promised to bring to book should face the harsh hand of the law.All those implicated in both major and minor cases should actualy face the music as you realise a bigger portion of country's resouces have been misused with rampant looting done left, right and centre from the public coffers.Bravo but be flexible madame.
