Mzalendo Vox Pop is a feature where we open up our blog to our readers to share their views on their constituency or on matters related to Parliament.
Background: I am Robert from Ainamoi Constituency, my MP is Benjamin Langat.
I never voted in 2007 because I have never believed in politics or lets say politicians from my constituency are not elected genuinely or do not perform and never live up to their pledges and promises.
Challenges facing my constituency: Few professionals in the constituency or even if there are, no platform to transfer skills or knowledge since the leaders within the constituency prefer one who is associated/related with/to them.
Positive developments in my constituency: The community is aware of the habits of politicians so they are conscious of themselves are more are now focused on their own development (self-employment). Also investors are now keen to create employment with presence of three supermarkets, more banks coming up, an Ardhi house almost being completed, Saccos present.
There are now forums to create awareness of opportunities which are beneficial to the community, creating platforms for investors to boost wealth of the constituency. Leaders have to market their plans, ideas and have a competitive process to elect, not the ones whom we are being imposed on every election year by so-called ‘Elders’.
Potential candidates for the next election are few:
- Gideon Koros is a performer both publicly and privately, he owns businesses which have flourished and he’s focused, sober, smart, religious, and concerned with the going-ons in the community. He was a contender in the last elections but lost since he was a new-comer and he defeat conceded defeat and vowed to fight another day.
- Chepkwony aka Timbilwet is another potential depending on which seat he’s after. He gave the late David Too a great fight for the seat but lost due to irregularities and alleged bribery. He is a don of Kabianga Campus,an academician and veteran in the politics of the constituency.
Message to your MP: First, I will ask him to give me his score-card – the pledges he made and what he has achieved since 2007. Second, what has he done with/ for the youth and women of the constituency? Third, I would ask whether he has ever made any decisions by himself or he belongs to the sheep-mentality of following what other leaders are saying from the area without consulting the constituents?

Comments on Robert(Ainamoi Constituency) I do appreciate his comments, he is entitled. My guess is that since my election, Robert you have never stepped in your home. Just to highlight my achievements Education: Ten new Secondary Schools started and admitted students, More than twenty new primary schools, the only existing youth polytechnic revamped, now admitting 150 students from 30 students in 2008. three new polytechnics being build using CDF, SOIN, AINAMOI, and Kapsaos. More than twenty new centres, schools etc connected with electricity, All roads except 3 which are being fixed now have been murramed, more than 10 new dispensaries completed and operationalised. Your comments are not factual, but based on malice. If come from Ainamoi(i doubt), surely you should have seen, heard or even touch some of these ernomous developments in the constituency!

What have done as an mp to unfolding incident where machines are now used to pick tea in tea estates which have rendered so many people jobless?
by Robert on 9th March 2011
Thank you Hon Langat for the reply.I find it dishonorable to have you defend yourself in such a platform whereas it could have been prudent for you to engage constituents in such developments you've mentioned above and ask them the key areas they want for development(which i believe it is now too late).I wish you could have named them instead of numerically stating them and accusing me of not being an Ainamoi resident! From above, those projects are either on course or not even started, two roads as tabled were fixed but now in deplorable state(do you inspect your projects??),The schools you talking about and dispensaries were projects which funds were either reallocated or the project stalled due to negligence or misappropriation! You mention "SOIN, AINAMOI, and Kapsaos",we are well aware these(Ainamoi division)what about Kimugung, Kapkugerwet, Sumeiyon Kaboruso, Majengo, Biashara, Kipchebor, Hospital, Matobo, and Chelimo electoral areas of Kericho District,or they did not vote for you? Hon.tackle current real issues:Youth/women empowerment,Unemployment, illiteracy(now on the decrease),ICT,social welfare, insecurity, workers unrest(esp.tea zones areas) etc! What is more irritating is our neighboring constituents are more developed than us! ...Now you can ask me again where i am from!

Hon Langat aka Benja, kindly tell me of the percentage of Cdf that goes to bursary.I completed my education despite flaws in your system of administering cdf/bursary.When you were elected, you and your cronies devised a Bureaucratic Bursary application form that was an outright deterrance to access funds by the needy! Then, being an official of Ackusa,a student body at KU,i noticed that some cheques went missing and allocated amount could not reach intended recipients at UoN,where do this amount go to?Kindly prepare a statement on this as we approach....

Congratulations our beloved MP Hn. Benja for the strong heart God gave you to serve the people of Ainamoi. What I know about you is that you are a person with integrity (the important ingredient of leadership) No MP as ever shown himself to us since I started voting in election in 1997 as a flexible person as you are sir. Motosiet residents in Kapsoit sub-location for example are HAPPY with what you have done for them. You are reachable MP unlike the past who had ladders. God bless you richly. All what you said in your opinion here is the truth which someone should not deny unless he or she doesn’t reside in Ainamoi. Telanet secondary is being built, Kipsamumgut polytechnic is operational, water projects like Chepng’atat, Ogirgir, Moemur and cattle dips are going on well and many others I’ll write of next time. Otherwise sir keep it up that motto and adds more. To my fellow Ainamoi residents, let’s guide and develop our leaders on issues other than crashing them. Other people don’t accuse their leaders openly. Let us respect but not to fear. Otherwise we have a MP this time.Bravo Benja we love you.

Too Dominic, I respect your comments, but it does not help any body to talk about generalities, which checks didnot reach the intended recepients? Also you have been singing about how difficult our bursary is, which section in particular is difficult? If you didn't get the bursary am sorry, ask your local committee, but may be you wanted to be unfair to those who deserved. Arrgue like an intellectual.
by Hon Benjamin Langat on 23rd August 2011
Birech, thanks for your accurate assessment
